Bobby Joe McDanel (1939-2022) was an avid reader and a classic car buff

Bobby Joe McDanel, 82, Rockton, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born July 27, 1939, in Centerville, IA, the son of Herbert and Alta Maxine (Martin) McDanel. Bobby was a veteran serving in the Navy. He married Judith Kobischka on April 23, 1962. She passed away in 2004. Bobby worked as a warehouse manager for Jaenicke Liquor Distributors for many years until his retirement. He was an avid reader and a classic car buff.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana Hood of Rockton; his son, Todd McDanel of Rockford; his grandchildren, Melissa (Kelcey) Williams, Chris (Mandy) Martin, and Sydney Hood; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Williams, Addisyn, Caleb, and Christopher Martin; his brothers, Gary (Ginger) McDanel and Don (Kay) McDanel; his sister-in-law, Sylvia McDanel; numerous nieces and nephews, including Andrea Ehrhart and Tracy Klitz who were his personal nurses.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Judi; his daughter Dawn Martin who passed away in 2014; his granddaughter Brianna McDanel who passed away in 2015; his brother, Bill McDanel; his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Russ DeShazo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Reverend David Beauvais officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until time of service, with burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
