HCHS senior Cade Bastian signed a letter of intent to play golf at the University of Dubuque next fall. Cade has distinguished himself as an outstanding golfer, as well as an outstanding student while at Hononegah. Seated with him are (L-R) his brother Zane and his parents Rich and Lori Bastian.

University of Dubuque director of golf Dustin Bierman made the trip to Hononegah Community High School on Monday, Jan. 10, to witness senior Cade Bastian as he signed a letter of intent to play golf at the school next fall. Joining him at the signing table were his parents Rich and Lori Bastian and his older brother Zane.

Hononegah golf coach Ken Lewis has been coaching Cade for three years. “Cade is not only an outstanding golfer, he has been an outstanding scholar the last two years at Hononegah. It’s been a pleasure coaching him.”

Varsity coach Anthony Miers has coached Cade for four years. "He always provided levity when the team wasn’t doing so well," he said. “Cade was the only one who went to the gym almost every day. He took lessons and competed all over the area throughout the summer.” Cade has been all-conference his junior and senior year and golf team MVP, as well as high honor roll Northern Illinois Conference (NIC 10) Outstanding Scholar Athlete.

Hononegah won the 2021 3A regional golf title last September, when Cade shot an even par 72. The team captured the Freeport Golf Invitational in September, where Cade shot a 73.

Bierman said he has known Cade since last June. “He’s ready for a challenge. We have a very good golf program at Dubuque. We are looking forward to having him join our program.”
