A Christmas Carol: Live at the Rockton Christmas Walk

Charles Dickens’ classic novel A Christmas Carol comes to life in early December at the Hononegah Performing Arts Center as part of the Rockton Christmas Walk, December 3-5. This Broadway-style musical is produced by Christian Youth Theater (CYT) Rockford Chapter, who brought Annie Jr. to the Hononegah PAC earlier this year with some of the same cast. But you probably won't recognize them: instead of Depression New York City, this time the setting is Victorian London. Some of the cast is very local; for example, Little Scrooge is played by the youngest son of the owners of Roscoe's Gymnastic Academy North. 

Since 1980, CYT has become the largest children’s theater organization in the country with more than 38 locations in 25 different cities and enrolling 18,000 students annually.

The original story was written by Charles Dickens, of course, but it was adapted for the stage by composer Alan Menken (Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Disney's The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyricist/playwright Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical, Once on This Island). The show ran for a decade at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

"On a cold Christmas Eve in London, the miserly, mean-spirited, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three ghosts, each with a story to tell. The ghosts take Scrooge on a whirlwind journey of his past, present, and future.
