Peter D. Rossi, 88, of Rockton, IL, enjoyed walking and nature, spending time with family, as well as listening to baseball and football games. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was a member of the original Old Settlers Days committee.

Peter departed this earthly life on Oct. 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Peter was born in Rockford, Il. on January 3, 1935. He was the son of Delfino and Concetta “Etta” Rossi. Peter graduated from East High School in Rockford. He married the former Judith (Hardt) in 1969 and moved from Rockford to Rockton in 1971. He worked at Rockford Life Insurance Company for 31 years, retiring in 1986 due to vision problems. He finally lost his sight in 1991.

He is survived by his adored wife, Judy; daughter, Karen (Jim) Allen; grandchildren, Taylor Rinaldo and Alexis Vogt; and Hannah and Collin Allen; sister, Phyllis Kinamore; brother-in-law, Jim (Tina) Hardt; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces, and a great-great niece Rossi. Peter is also survived by many relatives in Italy and Brazil.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Ann Keating, parents-in-laws Chris and Eleanor Hardt and brothers-in-law Byron Kinamore and Jerry Keating.

A funeral ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023 in McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL with Fr. Romeo Pavino officiating, after visitation. Cremation rites were accorded. Burial is in Highland Garden of Memories.

The family says, "Heartfelt thanks to Jola, Pete's caretaker, our guardian angel for almost two years, the special glue that kept us all together and a forever friend. A special thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice; especially Nurse Nick, Chaplain Chuck, Mallory, Stephanie, Kayla, Madi and all the weekend CNAs. Also, thanks to the Rockton Fire Protection District for assisting with Pete on many occasions."
