Barbara Bjorklund hiked the Grand Canyon - twice

Barbara Bjorklund (1943-2023)

Barbara J. Bjorklund of Rockton, IL, was born September 26, 1943 in Rockford, Il., the daughter of Steffa and Nellie (Shoemaker) Heimert. Barbara passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023, her family by her side. 

Barbara was a graduate of Winnebago High School, class of 1961. She married Ray Bjorklund on June 18, 1982 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Rockford. 

She was employed at Ingersoll Cutting Tools, Landstar Inway, and BAX Global until her retirement. 

She enjoyed cooking and hiking, especially hiking the Grand Canyon which she accomplished twice. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband Ray of Rockton; children Michelle (Karl) Zoller, Christina (James) Budziszek, Thomas Hurst, and Chip (Jeanette) Bjorklund; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Barbara is also survived by siblings Michael (Helen) Heimert, Patricia (Howard) Brentner, Margaret Clauss, Sandra Lapete, Ann (Paul) Orlandi and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Jack and Richard Heimert, and brother-in-law Chuck Clauss. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to OSF Hospice and Barbara’s caretakers for their compassionate care. 

Memorial service were held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe. IL.

Memorial donations may be given in Barbara’s name to the Arbor Day Foundation or to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation.
