Rockton man killed in single-car collision with tree

Responding to an early Tuesday morning report, Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies found a white van west of Rockton that had crashed into a tree off the 11300 block of North Rockton Ave, north of Moffett Road. A 39 year-old man, later identified as Matthew Brown of Rockton, was inside and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Winnebago County Coroner's preliminary autopsy found that he died of a head injury in the collision. 

Deputies arrived at the site about 5 a.m. on February 21, 2023. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. A single-car collision on the same road in October 2022 claimed the life of a 57-year-old man.
