Leon A. Schuetz, 85, of Rockton, IL died Sunday, February 12, 2023 in Javon Bea Hospital. Born June 5, 1937 in Monroe, WI. to Carl and Rose (Waeffler) Schuetz. Leon was the first generation born in the U.S. after his parents immigrated from Switzerland.

Until the sixth grade, he was educated in a one room schoolhouse. He left school to help on the family farm but later earned his high school diploma.

Leon married Beverly Jensen in Rockford, IL in August 1958. When he was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, his new wife was able to join him. The love and commitment they shared stretched 55 years and beyond. She died in 2013.



Leon was a master welder for his entire career. He worked for Zion and Fordam Dam before retiring from Byron Nuclear Plant.  

He loved his farm and tending the earth and animals. Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He retired at age 55.

Survivors include sons Jason (Angy) Schuetz; daughter Lisa Schuetz; grandchildren: Bryan Schuetz, Krystal Schuetz, Joseph (Tanya) Stahl, Christian Stahl, Izzajah Schuetz; great grandchildren Ellianna, Noah, Abigail and Brock; brother Eugene (Charlotte) Schuetz and Danny Schuetz; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, son Douglas, and brother Carl Schuetz.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023 in McCorkle Funeral Home -Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd. Rockton, IL with Pastor Dan Herman officiating. Burial will be in Shirland Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until time of ceremony on Saturday.
