Maria Paula Reyes, 77, of Rockton, IL, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, going to casinos, and playing bingo. She was a homemaker for her family. She loved her siblings as well as her children and grandchildren. Maria Paula was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL.

Maria Paula passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 in her home.

The daughter of Francisco and Leonila (Chapa) Cadena, Maria Paula was born on October 26, 1945, in Falcon, TX. Settled in the 1750s, the village was flooded when Maria Paula was seven, after the construction of Falcon Dam. Maria Paula married Juan Reyes on February 22, 1965 in Texas. He predeceased her on October 2, 2022, only two months ago.



Survivors include her children, Martin (Maria “Araceli”) Reyes of Loves Park, IL, and Martha (Israel) Mejia of South Beloit, IL; grandchildren, Heath, Eric, Vicky, Martin, Tony, Juan, Ceasar, and Miguel; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Jessie (Hope) Cadena of Rockford, IL, Javier Cadena of Tomah, WI, Tony (Linda) Cadena of Rockford, IL, Estella Paredes of Houston, TX, Adrian (Anita) Cadena of Katy, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and an infant brother.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Paula will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, 824 E. Grand Ave., Beloit, WI. Visitation of Remembrance will be held from 8:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Thursday in the church.
