9 a.m. - 12 noon. Free.

Volunteer for nature when you collect seeds at the annual Fall Prairie Harvest Day.
The public is invited to collect seeds from native prairie wildflowers and grasses at Nygren Wetland Preserve. We’re happy to announce that we will be supporting one of our community partners with this event because the seeds from this year’s harvest will benefit Nature at the Confluence in South Beloit to help them start a new section of prairie.

This is a fun community service activity that all ages can participate in and feel good about accomplishing.

All kinds of groups – Scout Troops, 4-H Clubs, homeschool groups, corporate/employee teams, and church groups – are welcome to participate.

Snacks (like donuts, yum! and other treats), apple cider, and water will be provided.

Seed Guides will show you how to collect seeds from the plants that day, as well as what area to look for the native wildflowers and grasses in. Fun fact: you will learn how to identify those prairie plants in their dormant season. Added benefits while harvesting seeds are seeing interesting insects like grasshoppers or red milkweed beetles, birds flying around, and signs of animals from a fox den to scat or bones.

Gloves, shears, and buckets will be provided and volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves.

Registration is requested for this free event by Fri., Oct. 4, 2024. Click on the ticket link to register or here: https://www.naturalland.org/event/fall-prairie-harvest-day-2024/
