Rockton, IL - Hononegah High School A few dozen friends and family gathered at Hononegah High School on February 23rd 2025 to welcome home the nine IHSA state qualifiers in wrestling.

Rockton, IL Hononegah High School - Sunday afternoon was a day filled with mostly sun and warmer temps, so when word got out on social media of a celebration to welcome home nine state qualifiers in wrestling, including a state champion! I jumped in my truck and got over to Hononegah.

I was first met by principal Chad Dougherty, who waited for the bus to arrive. Next coming out of the school doors was athletic director Andrew Walters. I turned around, and it seemed like 30 cars were in the parking lot. Dozens of friends and family came to meet the team and celebrate a great season full of accomplishments.

Around 3 pm, the bus pulled into the parking lot, and first off the bus was 136-pound state champion wrestler Rocco Cassioppi, followed shortly after by his wrestling teammates and Head Coach Tyler Demoss, teammates Kristian Declerco, Jackson Olson, Bruno Cassioppi, TJ Silva, Max Haskins, Brody Sendele, Connor Diemel, Kurt Smith, and Maddox Franklin.

Hononegah Indians sophomore Rocco Cassioppi won his State Title in the 136-pound division by defeating Marist's George Marinopoulos 5-4.
