Free physicals, screenings, and supplies set South Beloit students up for success

South Beloit, IL — On August 1, dozens of South Beloit students received free sports and school physicals, as well as vision and hearing screenings, and other wellness resources, thanks to a community partnership led by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Crusader Community Health, and the Lions Club.

Medical professionals from Crusader Community Health provided the physicals, while Lions Club volunteers, including Hina Trivedi, conducted vision and hearing tests. The services were offered at no cost, with Blue Cross and Blue Shield covering expenses to ensure that all families could participate, regardless of insurance status.

In addition to health services, families took home fresh produce boxes and back-to-school supplies.

Emily Walker and McKenna Bauer from Remedies Renewing Lives, a Rockford-based nonprofit, were also on site to share information about their programs, which include teen services for those impacted by domestic abuse, an emergency shelter in Rockford, legal advocacy, and transitional housing.
