Free fire extinguisher inspections for businesses at Harlem-Roscoe Station 1
For older extinguishers, the tech can tell you if you should rebuild or replace it.
Businesses are required to have fire extinguishers, each with a current inspection tag that says it's working. Thanks to Harlem-Roscoe Fire and a local fire extinguisher service, inspections can be free, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Station Number 1, at 10544 Main Street in Roscoe.
Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District offers a fire extinguisher inspection program once a month, on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 8 -10 am. at no cost to business owners within the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District.
A state-certified fire inspection company performs all of the inspections & tagging while you wait, usually 5-10 minutes. No more than four extinguishers may be brought in at one time.

Businesses should take advantage of this program to remain compliant with the life safety code.
The service is free as long as the fire extinguisher is:
- less than six (6) years old,
- has not been discharged,
- is free of rust or damage,
- The valve is metal.
If the extinguisher is older than six years of age, it will first have to be rebuilt & refilled (which would not be free) and then it's taggable for another six years. Depending on the size and brand of extinguisher, it may be more cost-effective to purchase new. The fire extinguisher tech can advise you when he examines your extinguisher.
For residences, the fire department offers a free check-up for your home's smoke and CO detectors. Effective January 1, 2023, new smoke detectors are required to have 10-year sealed batteries.
