Late Wednesday night, the 2023 Division I Wrestling Championship brackets were announced. Former Hononegah Indian and current Iowa Hawkeye Tony Cassioppi will be taking on at-large wrestler Jaron Smith from Maryland. Cassioppi is 21-3 on the season and gets the number 4 seed in the 285 bracket.

Smith is 13-11 on the season and earned his spot in the championship the hard way by getting one of just four at-large spots in the 285 bracket. Smith has been in college for eight years now and has a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) contract once his season ends. Last summer he attended a WWE tryout in Texas and was offered a contract right after the tryout ended.
