Fire destroys home on Hononegah Road; no injuries reported; two pets however are believed to have perished
Firefighters arrived on the scene to a house full of smoke and flames.
An afternoon fire on Hononegah Road in the Township of Roscoe caused a single-family home to be burnt beyond repair. “The home is a complete loss,” said Rockton Fire District Chief Wilson. The Monday fire prompted a multi-department response and rerouted traffic from Hononegah Road for more than 5 hours. No injuries were reported; however, two pets are believed to have perished.
The Harlem-Rosce Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 1 p,m according to CrimeRadar, whose purpose is to "keep you informed about what’s happening in your neighborhood and help you make informed safety decisions."
The cause of the fire is believed to be unattended burning, as Rockton Fire District Chief Wilson said, “When we arrived, the entire back of the home was on fire, and we noticed a burn pile that the homeowners had started.” Preliminary reports suggest the fire jumped from the burn pile to the house, and it quickly spread to the 2nd floor.
“Two people were at home at the time of the fire; fortunately, they self-extricated. Unfortunately, we believe two pets succumbed to the fire,” said Rockton Fire Chief Wilson.
A mutual aid response was called for with the Monday afternoon fire, which brought 20 pieces of equipment and nearly 60 firefighters to the scene. No injuries were reported for the firefighters.
