Final day of Roscoe Fall Festival cancelled, but breakfast is still served

Until rain arrived, Sunday in Roscoe would have meant parade, games, rides, food, music. The grand prize drawing may be rescheduled.

Final day of Roscoe Fall Festival cancelled, but breakfast is still served

UPDATE: Breakfast in the Park is continuing as scheduled until 9:45 a.m. but the Lions Club has cancelled the rest of the Fall Festival, including the parade.

Judging by the Sunday weather for the Roscoe Lions Fall Festival, it looks like it's going to rain on our parade. Local officials have canceled the Roscoe Lions Festival Parade on Main Street Roscoe, and announced it early Sunday morning by any means they can: email to the participants, social media, or police loudspeakers on the parade route.

Despite the parade status, Sunday will begin with Breakfast at Leland Park, hosted by Roscoe United Methodist Men. For $7, you receive a fine breakfast of pancakes (all you can eat) and sausages, with a roof over your head. For lunch and dinner, about a dozen food vendors (see the list below) are set up at the park.

Carnival ride specials, also to be announced later, would have been offered all afternoon by Skinners Amusements. They usually decide that, during the special, each ride will cost fewer tickets. Rides this year included the Powerslide, Beach Party (usually 3 tickets), Lolly Swing, the Tornado, the Orient Express, the Cliff Hanger, Baja Buggy (usually 4 tickets), Re-Mix, Zipper (usually 5 tickets), and Jump A Round.

In the business tent, sixteen vendors and organizations (see the list below the schedule) set up tables with their offerings. (Though they include three religious groups, I don't think any of them were taking offerings.) The several non-profit and political organizations would welcome contributions. And of course the businesses could tell you about the products and services that you could purchase from them.

In the afternoon, Distilled, an acoustic duo, was scheduled to be "getting you laughing, clapping, and singing along" from 3:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the main stage. They are a RAMI Award winning acoustic duo formed in 2018 by two veteran musicians, Darryl Andrus and Brian Scott Taylor, who have a combined 70 years of live performance experience. Performing songs from the 50’s through today and covering all popular genres, Distilled’s repertoire covers hundreds upon hundreds of songs. They have recently appeared at Splitter's in Loves Park, Island Bar & Grill in Ft. Atkinson, Rock-A-Bago and the Venetian Club in Rockford.

After the music, Lions Club dignitaries, with the help of unbiased assistants, was to have mixed up the raffle tickets in a drum and drawn out the names of the cash prize winners. We have contacted them about their alternate plans. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20, available from any Roscoe Lion member.

  • $5,000 grand prize drawing
  • $1,500 2nd prize
  • $1,000 3rd prize
  • Ten extra prizes of $50 each

The Roscoe Township Historical Society has prepared a plaque to Bud and Sue's Market, 11030 Main Street, as their 2022 Heritage Enterprise honoree. The business has been selling plants in Roscoe for 62 years, since John F. Kennedy was President.
