Good news travels fast. The word got out early about a new knitting and crocheting shop in Roscoe. Owner Sara Wirth is fulfilling a dream that she has had for years. Sara has worked in the corporate world for several years but always found time for satisfying her passion for knitting and crocheting. “So, I asked myself what was my excuse for not doing something that brings me so much joy?” I love to knit and really wanted to open a soothing, stress-free space where people could meet and chat with friends, have a cup of tea and relax.”

With her husband Derek’s blessing she is now pursuing her dream.

Yarns aren’t the only thing to be found at A Skein Away. Sara carries hand-made Lucky Pepper Pottery by artist Skye Pepper, Rockford, IL. Shoppers can purchase yarn bowls and mugs currently on display. A large assortment of teas are available, created from Crafty Tea Company @craftyteacompany.com by Epiphany Lowe. Patrons are invited to sip and knit in a cozy nook in the shop.

There’s more: patterns, kits, dyes, books, botanicals, art, healing processes, pouches and bags.

“I carry wearable kits such as Hononegah High School sock sets, “Go Hononegah” in purple and gold. The kit includes a blend of soft and durable marina wool and nylon fiber.

Classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced crocheting and knitting will begin soon.

She would like to get involved with the Rockton and Roscoe communities, and explore Macktown Living History. “I have always been curious about making my own fiber, and want to learn how to dye and spin high quality yarn.

Store hours are: Wednesday - 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Thursday through Sunday, 10 AM – 6:00 PM, closed Monday and Tuesday.
