Hononegah girls bowling team bounces back to finish third at the IHSA state championships
"What a group of bowlers and coaches."
After a rough start on Friday, the Hononegah girls bowling team bounced back on Saturday, February 22, 2025 to finish third at the 2025 IHSA Girls Bowling State Championships at Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Illinois.
The Hononegah Indians finished Friday in eighth place with a total of 5,557 and were behind by 300 total pins after day one.
Early Saturday, the Indians started climbing the scoreboard with a first-game total of 1,110, which ended up being the highest pin total for a single game as a team at the state championships. They then dropped back a bit in the second game with an 837 and were out of the podium. Knowing they had one final game to reach the podium, they threw a very impressive 1,018, which ended up being the best Round 4 third game of any team by 28 pins.
The team consisted of senior Emilee Mullranin, who averaged 213; sophomore Addison Brien, averaged 195; senior Kailyn Davis, averaged 197; sophomore Riley Flaningam, averaged 197; Samantha Kallstrom, averaged 188; and junior Mackenzie Olson stepped in and stepped up in the final game for the Indians and threw a 194. The team finished third at 11,381, just 199 pins behind second place Joilet West.
Head coach Jeremy Woody stated, "What a group of bowlers and coaches... Couldn't be more proud of our team."
As hard as it is to not finish at the top of the podium, it seemed to be a happy time for the Hononegah Indians as another NIC 10 competitor and their friendly rival Harlem won the state championship with a total of 11,796.
Congrats on finishing third in the entire state of Illinois for the Hononegah Indians girls program.
