Audubon Mural Project: Meet The Artists
Audubon Mural Project: Meet The Artists

Free. You are invited to join Sinnissippi Audubon and Nature At The Confluence to learn about the new murals in South Beloit and the Audubon Mural Project, plus meet the artists that painted the murals. This free educational event is open to all ages. Please RSVP below.

Jennifer Kuroda, Sinnissippi Audubon, will lead the discussion about the Audubon Mural Project in NYC, Rockford, and how it is expanding globally. Afterward, artists Brett Whitacre and Justin Suarez will engage in a Q & A session about their work, etc. For those interested, we will walk to each of the murals for additional conversation with the artists.

Brett Whitacre is a self-taught artist living and working in Northern Illinois. He has murals throughout the state including several in downtown Rockford, Chicago, and a few Beef-a-Roo locations. Justin Suarez is an aerosol and fine artist who celebrates wildlife with large-scale spray-painted murals from upstate New York. He has painted murals across the US, and his work has been exhibited around the world.

The Audubon Mural Project is a public-art initiative of the National Audubon Society and Gitler &_____ Gallery that draws attention to birds threatened by climate change. Art can serve as a powerful tool to increase awareness and beautify our communities!

The new murals were completed in collaboration with Sinnissippi Audubon, Nature at the Confluence, and the City of South Beloit. The project received funding from the South Beloit hotel/motel tax revenue, which was approved by the South Beloit City Council.
