Elizabeth Wecker: Golden Apple finalist

Five of the 20 teachers who are finalists in the 2025 Golden Apple Award for Academic Excellence teach at schools in far northern Winnebago County.
Elizabeth Wecker teaches fourth and fifth grade Special Education Language Arts at Kinnikinnick School in Roscoe, Illinois. Elizabeth was recently notified that she is one of 20 finalists for the Golden Apple Excellence Award.
Elizabeth grew up in Rockton. She attended Stephen Mack Middle School and graduated from Hononegah Community High School. She earned her teaching degree from Northern Iowa University. Her degree is in reading, special education and language arts.
Elizabeth began teaching in 2001, in the Harlem School District, and now at Kinnikinnick School.
Elizabeth earned master degrees from Concordia University – Chicago, in Teacher Leadership and Illinois Principal Preparation.
“Growing up, I always wanted to teach Special Education. I want my students to be confident and to grow, socially and emotionally.”
Elizabeth is a strong advocate of inclusion in the classroom.
“I like connecting with my students and helping them get through the challenges. I want them to grow to their full potential.”
Elizabeth is married to Darin Wecker, a teacher and coach in Clinton. They live in Rockton and are parent of three children.
