Sobo Athletic Club and Rusty Wheel have the meats
Third monthly meet raffle sees huge turnout and raises $591 for 5-12th grade Sobo athletes

The Rusty Wheel on Blackhawk Blvd in South Beloit was packed on Sunday for its third monthly meat raffle to benefit South Beloit School District student athletes. The meat raffle consisted of four rounds, with 16 winners, and ultimately raised $591.

The raffle, which will be a weekly event at the Rusty Wheel as soon as the NFL season starts, features abundant chances to win. Raffle participants can buy 6 tickets for $5, and even if they do not win the first round, the tickets still stay in the pot. Jeff Ruud, owner and proprietor of the Rusty Wheel, even keeps the chances to win going after the meats are raffled off. Participants can try their luck at a 50/50 drawing by buying back their raffle tickets for $1 each, which are then entered into a new pot.
Ruud then went on to detail the nut draw (think the three red cups with a ball inside of one magic trick). Another ticket is drawn, and if it is your ticket, you pick up one out of three nuts. The winner of that drawing receives a $25 gift card to the Rusty Wheel if they pick up the nut with the ball underneath it.

Kurt Fago, president of the Sobo Athletic Club, emphasized that these meat raffles go a long way to help South Beloit Athletic teams and that the athletic club assists sports programs from grades 5-12, not just the high school level.
Mr. Fago also mentioned the success of the summer sports athletic camps, such as the 5-8th-grade girls summer basketball camp that had 25 girls attend, an increase from the prior year's camps.

The Sobo Athletic Club will be holding another fundraising event, the End of Summer Shindig (with the above girls basketball team ready to run the facepainting booth!) on Saturday, August 16th, from 11 am to 6 pm at Viking Lanes in South Beloit.
