Dominant defense and special teams for Hononegah leads the way in a dominant win over Jefferson Friday night
The NIC-10 is on notice they might play differently but Hononegah High School is looking like a top contender of the conference.
After the first quarter, the Jefferson J-Hawks led Hononegah 8-7. From that point on, nothing went right for them. Hononegah's dominant defense, great special teams and a powerful running game led to a 48-8 win Friday night for Hononegah.
The defense led by Curt Smith and his six tackles held Jefferson to just 95 total yards in the game. Helping Smith out was Xander Swanson with three tackles and two sacks.
All three quarterbacks that played tallied a score, with Dominic Kelly and Drew Shockley running in one and Thomas Castelli getting one through the air to Cole Schmall in the 3rd quarter.
The offense only put the ball up eight times in the game, completing six passes for 55 yards and the lone TD from Castelli to Schmall. The Indians ran for 328 yards led by Curt Smith with 79 yards and two TDs and Brock Anderson who ended the night with 75 yards and two TDs.
Next up for the Indians is a road game against Harlem on September 13, 2024 at 7 pm.
