Dimke and Simpson shine in Senior Night win over Auburn 74–46
Hononegah celebrated two seniors on Friday, Feb. 13, at home against Harlem.
wasKylie Simpson was lights-out from three, dropping 18 points on impressive shooting out of the corner, and Jordan Dimke dropped 16 points with good effort on the boards and defense to put together a nice all-around performance.
Auburn struggled early and found some offensive momentum late, but was unable to cover Hononegah beyond the three-point line.
Sophomore Ainsley Hughes had a standout game as well, dropping 19 points and scoring 1,000 career points – a huge milestone for the young player, who should continue to impress in the next couple of years.
“They’ve just put in a lot of work, they’ve been very coachable,” coach Jason Brunke said about the two seniors. “They continue to buy into the role they’re asked to do, and just be stars at it.”
After the game, the players all had the pleasure of hoisting the NIC-10 championship trophy, and for the two seniors, it was extra special as they closed out their time at Hononegah with gold.
The program has recently seen significant success, as Coach Brunke, Simpson, Dimke, Hughes, and everyone on the team have contributed to a positive, winning culture.
Jordan Dimke, who’s a multi-sport athlete, is in for a busy end of the school year as track and field kicks off soon, where she has also impressed people during her time at Hononegah.
Now, they move on to the 4A IHSA playoff tournament, where they hope to impress and win more gold against Rockford Jefferson on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, fresh off a 65-49 win against Carpentersville (Dundee-Crown) on Saturday, Feb. 14.
