With sadness, we announce the following deaths for Roscoe, South Beloit, and Rockton in recent weeks:
Feb. 28, 2025:
Randall Romano, 76, Rockton
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Roscoe Lions Club.
Mar. 6, 2025:
Elizabeth Olsen, 69, Roscoe
She taught in the Rockford School district for 25 years and also taught private piano and voice lessons. For the past 20 years she touched many lives as a massage and craniosacral therapist and ministered to the spiritual needs of others every chance she had.
Mar. 7, 2025:
Curtis Thomas, 87, Roscoe
He grew up on a farm in Ecru, Mississippi, moving to Beloit by the early 60s. He worked for Chrysler in Belvidere for 42 years. A member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Roscoe, he was a member of the National Traveling Bowling League.
Lester Peterson, 87, Rockton
He worked at Gardner for many years, taught Sunday school at the Old Stone Church, and served as a trustee for the Village of Rockton.
Mar. 10, 2025:
Joyce Moore, 74, Roscoe
She worked for Amerock for 32 years until 2005. Married for 58 years, she enjoyed bowling, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and playing the slot machines.
Meri Turner, 38, South Beloit
A bartender at The Last Lap, she had a big heart, an infectious laugh, and immense pride in being a mother.
Mar. 11, 2025:
Jim Stobart, 82, Roscoe
A member of the Roscoe VFW, he loved vacations with his family, watching old western movies, and supporting the Packers.
Mar. 12, 2025:
Dick Meyers, 78, Shirland
A Navy veteran, he served as Winnebago County Sheriff for 17 years of his 47 year law enforcement career. He enjoyed farming and attending steam thresher shows.
Mar. 14, 2025:
Mike Cowan, 73, Roscoe
In his younger years he was a stock car racer and scuba diver. Quick witted and a joker, he owned Capital City Antique and had a passion for refinishing furniture.
Sandra Kopp, 82, Rockton
She worked hard at Clinton Electronics for 28 years. At her children's sporting events, she cheered them on with unmatched enthusiasm. She loved fishing, thrifting, and crocheting.
Mar. 15, 2025:
Arlene Roberts, 88, Roscoe
A lifelong member of Hunter United Methodist Church, she was a member of several saddle clubs and trail ride associations, as well as the American Business Woman's Association and the Manchester township planning commission.
