Death notices for the far Stateline: Mar. 10, 2026
We remember those who are no longer with us in Rockton, Roscoe, and South Beloit.
With sadness, we announce the following deaths for Rockton, Roscoe, and South Beloit in recent weeks:
Jan. 28, 2026:
Norma J. Anderson, 95, Roscoe
Growing up on a dairy farm, she attended a one room school before South Beloit Community High School. She applied her decorating talents to creating a beautiful, comfortable home for her family.

Feb. 12, 2026:
Richard K. Peterson, 62, Roscoe
Born to charm, he was a ladies man since he was a little boy. A 1982 graduate of Hononegah High School, he worked as a sales rep at Midland Paper for more than 32 years. His laugh was contagious, his stories wild. As a chef, he prepared his own recipes using ingredients he grew in his own garden. Each time he outran death, he came back with a bigger story to tell.

Mar. 1, 2026:
Gary B. Phelps, 83, Rockton
An Eagle Scout as a boy, he was an avid fisherman, bowler, woodworker, and keyboard player. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed biking, kayaking, and walking the family dog. Later in life he volunteered with Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful, leading annual clothing drives and Great American Cleanup events.

Mar. 2, 2026:
Leslie W. Burkins, 86, South Beloit
A man of remarkable strength and a famously strong will, he firmly believed that if something needed to be done, it was best to do it yourself. He found his rhythm on the open road as a truck driver, taking immense pride in the miles he covered and his 65-year marriage. While the world feels a bit quieter without him, we are all better for having known him.

Mar. 3, 2026:
Gary W. Henson, 73, Roscoe
Besides his career in manufacturing and machining, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, trap shooting, working in the yard, cheering on his nine grandkids, and watching Hallmark movies.

Mar. 4, 2026:
Bernice E. Knight, 80, Roscoe
She lived on Grosbeak Trail.
Joseph P. Montalvo, 65, Roscoe
His fascination with businesses showed up most famously in his love for Costco, which he visited multiple times a week just to observe how things were running. He was the undisputed king of step challenges, even if that meant going for a walk in the middle of the night to stay ahead. He was a natural gift-giver who never arrived anywhere empty-handed.

Mar. 6, 2026:
William J. Weldon, 77, Roscoe
He attended Kinnikinnick Grade School and Hononegah High School, graduating in 1966. After serving in Vietnam, he and his high school sweetheart raised three children on their farm. A skilled carpenter and contractor, he was a member of the Roscoe VFW.

Mar. 7, 2026:
Jerry A. Morgan Jr., 64, Roscoe
His funeral and burial will be in Elgin, where he was born.
