Country Financial agent Nick Sommer gives back to Harlem Roscoe Fire Department

Nick Sommer will never forget June 23, 2017, the day his family lost their home in Roscoe as a result of a devastating fire. Nick was in class at Hononegah. His mother was home at the time and was able to escape; however, the family lost all of their possessions. The family temporarily moved into a house next door and watched their home being rebuilt.
“With the help of the Harlem Roscoe Fire Department and COUNTRY Financial Insurance, we were made whole again,” Sommer said.
The Harlem Roscoe Fire Department held a fundraiser to replace clothing and household goods. COUNTRY Financial Insurance worked to rebuild the home. “Everything was replaced.”
Seven years later, Sommer became an insurance agent for COUNTRY Financial. His office is located at 5426 Williams Drive in Roscoe. “I became an insurance agent to provide the same peace of mind we were given, to families all over the Stateline and beyond.”
On October 3, 2023, Sommer, on behalf of COUNTRY Financial Insurance, presented a donation of $1,500 to HRFD Fire Chief John Bergeron, as part of the company's Operation Helping Heroes program. “This donation will help to purchase materials to spread fire safety awareness. It’s an opportunity to help those that helped me and my family.”

Operation Helping Heroes was created in 2015 to support non-profit organizations that support active duty service members, veterans and their families. In 2019, COUNTRY Financial expanded the program and donated $700,000 to approximately 500 first responder and military organizations. Some of the funds were used to purchase lifesaving automated external defibrillators (AEDs), bulletproof vests, and training equipment and programs. In 2020, the company planned to increase the program to $1 million, but in response to COVID-19, the company increased it to $3 million instead.
