Community has the chance to Rally Around Longtime Viking Lanes Employee After Stroke and Early Retirement

The South Beloit, Rockton and Roscoe communities are coming together to support one of its own. Viking Lanes will host a Retirement & Benefit Event for longtime employee Shari on August 30, beginning at 12 p.m., with a bags tournament kicking off the day’s activities. Tournament check-in begins at 10 a.m. at Viking Lanes, 210 Oak Grove Ave., South Beloit.

The event will feature raffle baskets, a 50/50 drawing, food, and a full afternoon dedicated to celebrating Shari’s decades of service and her ongoing recovery.

Shari spent 38 consecutive years working at Viking Lanes and has been part of the bowling center’s extended family for even longer. Her career came to an unexpected halt on March 14, 2026, when two co-workers noticed something was wrong and acted quickly. Their fast response, paired with the rapid arrival of South Beloit EMTs, saved Shari’s life as she suffered a stroke.

According to those close to her, Shari’s strength, determination, and outgoing spirit have defined her recovery. She continues to make progress and remains deeply connected to the community that has supported her for decades.

The stroke has forced Shari into early retirement, a change felt by staff, regulars, and friends who describe her as a cornerstone of the Viking Lanes family.

Organizers say the benefit is both a celebration of Shari’s resilience and a chance for the community to stand beside her on her road to recovery.
