When a combine caught fire in a corn field in rural Rockton, flames moved so quickly that Rockton Fire personnel activated a MABAS alarm to summon assistance from nearby departments. Rockton Fire arrived at the field in the 10800 block of Old River Road shortly after 1:25 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2023. Firefighters struggled against high winds. The fire consumed about 40 acres  west of Chicory Ridge and north of Hawks Pointe. The combine was a total loss.

Rockton Fire Chief Kirk Wilson commends the hard work that the responding fire companies endured bringing this stubborn fire under control and sends a heartfelt thank you to the mutual aid companies that covered our community as well. "Strong work by all," Wilson says.
