Charlie Hunt signs with Rock Valley College
National bowling champion Charlie Hunt's story started a long time ago.
Charlie Hunt signed his paperwork to attend Rock Valley College today, Nov. 29, 2023, but his story with bowling started a long time ago.
When Charlie was just three years old, he began his love for bowling: rolling balls down the hallways of his parent's house and sharing time and memories with his family.
Charlie is a national championship bowler, a son, a friend, and a leader of the Hononegah bowling team for the last three years.
At the signing, the small metal gym in Hononegah was filled with friends and former and future teammates. They all came to celebrate Charlie and the next step in the bowling journey – Rock Valley College - a national power in bowling, having won three of the last four championships.
Former Hononegah coach and current Rock Valley coach Tony Hall spoke of the excitement of having Charlie join the Rock Valley College team. He was lucky enough to coach Charlie as a young freshman, noting how talented he was at such a young age.
Hononegah head coach Brad Sommer, whose son helps as an assistant coach at Rock Valley College, mentioned one of the many traits Charlie brings is his mental maturity – “He is the same no matter what is happening.”

Charlie brings a ton of honors and accolades to the table as he finishes up at Hononegah and moves into this next chapter. Charlie was named NIC 10 MVP in 2022-2023 and was the 2023 National Singles champion last spring.
Charlie Hunt plans on studying business and hoping to give pro bowling a shot. If it doesn’t work out, he will fall into the bowling business as he has a goal of owning a bowling center someday.
Charlie made a point to thank so many for this honor. He thanked all his coaches, teammates, friends, family and finally the Hononegah school and community for providing him with the skills needed to go to the next level.

Growing up in the Green Bay, Wisconsin area, I was able to see many great bowlers at the time. Green Bay was a hotbed for bowling in the 1970s-1980s. I remember thinking to myself that anyone can do this no matter their size, or strength. It takes practice, effort, and consistency.
From what Charlie Hunt has accomplished so far, this next chapter will be filled with more trophies and titles - he will put in the work necessary and Hononegah High School has delivered on its promise of excellence in education and athletics.
