More than 700 homes in Chicory Ridge were affected by a power outage in Roscoe on Thursday night, Jan. 18, 2024, which began around 10:41 p.m. ComEd says they fixed the outage shortly before 12:30 a.m. Temperatures dropped to 10 degrees.

One of our readers says, "My husband and I live along the river and were watching TV. Through our windows we saw the entire sky to the south and southwest of us turn bright orange. This occurred four times within a few minutes, but we heard nothing. It was very strange looking!" She says they didn't lose power themselves, but other neighbors in Chicory Ridge posted on Nextdoor that their electricity went off and on several times. Some streets had power while nearby streets didn't. At one point, a neighbor reported that the "west side of Linden Blossom is on, east side is off."

Rebecca Dempsey, Senior Communications Specialist for ComEd, told us, "The cause of the outage was a broken tree limb on the line."
