Boutique Pilates Studio opens in Main Street Square
“I felt this was the time to start a business. I wanted to see if I could do it.”
Studio 12 Pilates, a beautiful fitness and Pilates exercise salon, opened Sept. 20, at 5306 Main Street Square in Roscoe. Owner and instructor Carol Scholl has created a sanctuary: tastefully combining state-of-the art Pilates equipment in one room, and a posh, serene relaxation area a few steps away.
Why did Scholl choose the name Studio 12 for her new business? It’s a nod to the 12 children she and her husband Pat have raised in Roscoe.
Scholl said she has been exercising for over 24 years while caring for her children. She found it to be a necessity in maintaining strength and a positive attitude. Pilates answered her need for mind as well as body strength.
“I’m a homebody; most of our children are out on their own now,” Scholl said. “I felt this was the time to start a business. I wanted to see if I could do it.”
She dipped her toes into the exercise business about seven years ago when she began teaching fitness classes at her church. She found she liked teaching.
“For my 50th birthday, my family gave me tuition for a teacher-training Pilates program," she said. It was a difficult 500-hour program taught by a master trainer. One hundred hours of observation was also required.
After completing her training, Scholl taught Pilates classes in Schaumburg and Algonquin for a while.
“A lot of people are afraid of Pilates until they take a class,” she said. “It’s a full body workout and can be done by anyone, young or old. The mind and body workout sculpts tones and boosts energy.”
The petite, slender and energetic Scholl is definitely a testament to her program.
There are several membership options available: single classes, group classes, two and four times a week options, and drop-in classes. All of the personalized classes and techniques are taught by Scholl.
Studio 12 is open Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M – 6:30 P.M, and Saturday, 8:00 A.M -noon.

Scholl is holding an open house, 6:00 -9:00 p.m. Thursday evening Oct. 21.
On her website, Scholl explains, "Pilates is a method of exercise that gives you a full body, low impact workout... that is gentle on the joints and causes you to find muscles you didn’t know you had." The program "focuses on proper alignment, core strength and balance in the muscles. Movements are small and very focused, constantly striving for a mind body connection while using breath as a tool. Attention is always on core but you can expect to work the entire body."
She says, "Pilates is a practice, there is no end or arrival, and you need patience. It never gets old and honestly can become more challenging as you learn to connect properly to your body."
