Hononegah basketball came to a quick stop last weekend as both the girls and boys teams lost to Harlem in the 2023 4A IHSA playoffs. Now that the offseason has started for Hononegah basketball, it reminds of a quote from Bobby Knight that I heard:

“The key is not the ‘will to win’… everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important” – Bob Knight 1991 Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, three-time NCAA champion.

The NIC 10 champion Indian girls team lost 44-31 in the regional final to Harlem. The Lady Indians finish an amazing 2022-2023 season 28-5 overall and 18-0 in the NIC 10 during the regular season.

The boys lost 76-56 in the regional quarterfinals from Rockford Jefferson on Saturday. The Indian boys team finishes the 2022-2023 season 9-23 overall and 7-11 in the NIC 10.

Both teams lose key contributors off this year’s team but the younger teams have had some success to build off of in the coming seasons.

Thank you to all the players, coaches, parents, athletic staff and social media accounts for helping me cover both teams this season.
