Baker's Dream: season passed, season to come

Perhaps premature, I am anxious to put my overgrown garden to bed.

How could it be? Another season passed. Summer, blisteringly hot and humid, passed in a retrospective blur. And though perhaps premature, I am anxious to put my overgrown garden to bed. My OUTDOOR “to do” list penned in a Spring rush of blissful anticipation, a full page from top to bottom, remains largely untouched.

The top line a priority, underlined in red permanent marker, mocks my procrastination.

  • “Repair and rehang each and every birdhouse fallen victim to gusting winds of winter, to assaults of driven sleet and hail, to ever relentless wearying of time passed.”

Revived by fresh warmth, roused from a long winter coma, I had scrawled magical possibilities onto a blank page.

Now, as I pull weeds, cut back yellowed foliage, I yearn for a better start, dream of a season to come.
