Another winter weather warning
Don't park on the street until snow is cleared Friday morning.
Once again heavy snow began falling at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 and local governments took action to clear streets, including parked cars.
The National Weather Service predicted 4-7 inches in the Stateline area, the heaviest snowfall before 11 p.m. Thursday night, and snow rates peaking at one inch per hour earlier in the evening. Snow is expected to be wet, heavy, and hard to shovel. You can burn 200 calories in half an hour shovelling snow, but take it slow if you're at risk for heart disease.
The Village of Rockton posted on Facebook:
In advance of the forecasted snow today, we're reposting this gem. Please note, there is also no parking on the street after 2 inches of snow. Save the Rockton Police from hand cramps from writing tickets, please ;)
Please remember that family, friends, dog-walkers, and a few neighbors who actually practice that whole "daily walks for physical health" advice would greatly appreciate you shoveling your walkways.
If kindness doesn't appeal to you, how about rules? The Village of Rockton municipal code requires you to do it. Adulting. It looks good on our neighborhoods.
On the plus side, there are no rules about clothing, or the lack of it, when shoveling (as long as you keep your private bits covered). Nor heavy jewelry or your dad's New Balances. You do you, Rockton.
Stay warm, Rockton!
The City of South Beloit declared a snow emergency for Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. until Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
As long as a snow removal event exists in any street in the city, no vehicle, except emergency vehicles, shall park on any street. During snow removal events odd/even parking shall be suspended until streets are fully plowed and the snow event has been cancelled by city authorities. Any vehicle in violation shall be deemed a traffic hazard subject to immediate ticketing and/or towing. The penalty for improperly parking during a snow event shall be $75.00, and a separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. Residents are also reminded to remove trash and recycling carts from the street.
“We take a lot of pride in clearing our roads. Please be patient with our crew and remove vehicles from roadways so we can work as cautiously and quickly as possible. Stay safe.” Steve Haas, City of South Beloit Streets Superintendent.
The Village of Roscoe announced:
You know the drill by now, please drive safely everyone.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Roscoe region, currently already in effect through 7:00 AM Friday. Evening and overnight accumulation of several inches. Public Works trucks have been out salting, and will work to keep roads clear and safe throughout the night. Please remove cars from all Village streets.
