On Friday, the weather was terrible if you were outside. Luckily for the Indians boys basketball team, their play on February 14, 2025 didn’t coincide with the winter storm that went through our area. Behind leading scorer Brandon Olson’s 16 and the stellar two-way play of junior point guard Caleb Love the Hononegah Indians got out ahead of Rockford Auburn and kept them at bay all night long at the Hononegah Fieldhouse.
The Indians' defense held two of the conference's top scorers way below their season averages. Amir Danforth and Champ Parker combined to average 38.5 coming into the Valentine's Day contest. When the buzzer sounded to end the game, they only had a combined 16 points (Danforth 11 points and Parker 5 points).
With the win the Indians now sit in fourth place in the NIC 10 with two regular season games remaining. Tuesday night, February 18, they host Freeport at 6:30 p.m, (not the different start time with no freshman game as they are playing a tournament at Boylan Catholic), and they finish the regular season on the road with a rivalry showdown against Boylan Catholic on Wednesday, February 19, with tipoff set for 7:15 pm
