18-1 season comes to an end for the Hononegah Flag Football team. Indians fall to Round Lake 12-7.
This team didn’t just win—they suffocated opponents.

ROUND LAKE, IL — Under the Thursday night crisp fall lights at Round Lake High School, the Hononegah Indians’ remarkable flag football season came to a close in a hard-fought 12-7 defeat at the hands of the Round Lake Panthers in the IHSA playoffs.
It was a game that lived up to the billing—two powerhouses clashing in a defensive slugfest that saw momentum swing like a pendulum.
As the game wore on, Round Lake wasn’t done. With just minutes remaining, the Panthers broke through Hononegah’s vaunted defense—one that had posted an astonishing 11 shutouts this season—and found the end zone again. A missed extra point kept the score at 12-7.
Despite the loss, the Indians finish the season with a sterling 18-1 record, a NIC-10 conference championship, and the kind of defensive dominance rarely seen in high school football. Eleven shutouts. Let that sink in. This team didn’t just win—they suffocated opponents.
Indeed, the future looks bright. With a strong junior class and a program that’s quickly becoming a state-level force, Hononegah’s flag football story is far from over.
As the Panthers celebrate their advance, the Indians walk off the field with heads held high—battle-tested, bonded, and already looking ahead to basketball season for a good chunk of the team.
From all of us at the Rockton-Roscoe News, hats off to a season for the ages, ladies.
